Martina Calvo - Claudia Fernández and Agustín Tapia - Arturo Coello ended a perfect week in Düsseldorf by lifting the CUPRA Germany Premier Padel P2 title. The Prodigy Girls produced a brilliant performance against the team that defeated them in the Paris Major final, while the Golden Boys beat Franco Stupaczuk - Jon Sanz for the second consecutive week to move another step closer to their main objective: remaining No. 1 in the FIP Ranking for a fourth consecutive season.

Calvo - Fernández Leave Their Mark In Germany

The tournament’s No. 4 seeds delivered a genuine padel masterclass at Castello Düsseldorf to claim their second title as a team. In the semi-finals, they overcame Bea González - Paula Josemaría (#2) after a three-set battle (6-4, 5-7, 7-6), and on Sunday they drew on all the confidence to comfortably defeat Sánchez - Ustero, who came into the final after beating the world No. 1s and moving up to No. 2 in the FIP Race.

The hugely talented young team, who are just 38 years old combined, wrapped up the final in one hour and eight minutes, far quicker than expected given that Sánchez - Ustero had won the previous two Tour tournaments. Calvo - Fernández took the opening set on their terms, winning 6-3 after converting one of the only two break points they created and outdoing their opponents in winners (23-14).

Their composure in the key moments only grew stronger in the second set, as they gave Sánchez - Ustero no way back. Three breaks helped them cruise to an emphatic 6-0 to seal the Germany P2 title.

As a result, Fernández - Calvo will add 600 FIP Race points each and head into next week’s Milan P1 full of confidence. Since joining forces last July, they have won two titles, finished runner-up twice and reached two semi-finals across the six Premier Padel tournaments they have played together, putting together impressive results.

“We’re absolutely delighted. It was a dream final, and we played at an incredible level. I want to dedicate this to my family, who came here to watch me, and to my whole team,” said Fernández.

“Yesterday we played for three hours, and today it was much quicker. We focused on fighting for every point. We faced them in Paris and it didn’t go well for us because they played a perfect match. But today we can say that we were the ones who played to perfection. We want more next week,” said Calvo.

Coello - Tapia Win in DÜSSELDORF for the First Time

Another title unlocked for the Golden Boys in Germany, where they had never managed to get their hands on the trophy — until today. They lost last year’s final to Chingalán (6-7, 2-6), but this time they defeated Franco Stupaczuk - Jon Sanz (#4) for the second consecutive week to lift their eleventh trophy of the season and extend their lead over their rivals in the FIP Race.

The team coached by Martín Canali claimed victory after overcoming a difficult situation in the second set. Having taken the opening set 6-2, their opponents moved 6-5 ahead with serve in the second. However, the No. 1 seeds raised their level, avoiding a deciding set by breaking Stupaczuk - Sanz’s serve and taking the final in the tie-break (7-5).

It was their third consecutive title following the Paris Major and Rotterdam P2, and their eleventh of the season. Just as they did last week in the Netherlands, they once again denied Stupa the chance to maintain one of his traditions: winning at least one title on the world’s leading Tour each season. He has done so in each of the last nine years and will still have five opportunities in Milan, Kuwait, Dubai, Acapulco and Barcelona to keep that streak alive.

“This title is very special for us because we had never won in Germany. It’s been incredible to play here, where padel is growing so much. I want to congratulate Franco, Jon and their coach Cristian. They’ve had a great tournament this week, and we had to play perfectly to beat them. And Agus as well, who played incredibly and is a true world No. 1,” said Coello after the final.

“It was a very positive week for us. We wanted to get that monkey off our back and finally win in this country, where things hadn’t gone our way. We’re very happy. Now it’s time to enjoy it and keep thinking about what’s next,” said the Mozart of Catamarca.

After a fantastic week of padel in Düsseldorf, the European swing moves on to the Allianz Cloud. The main draw of the Milan P1 gets underway tomorrow, Monday 12 October.

There will be more than just 1,000 points and a €479,068 prize purse at stake for the champions. The players will also be looking to put themselves in the best possible position heading into the final stretch of the season, with two Majors still to come and the battles for No. 1 in the FIP Ranking and qualification for the Finals set to be decided.
