The Kuwait Major Premier Padel Powered by BNK has come to an end, going down in history as the tournament that saw Agustín Tapia-Arturo Coello crowned world No. 1s for a fourth consecutive season, while Gemma Triay-Delfi Brea delivered a statement victory over their main rivals in their bid to retain the world No. 1 spot.
Both teams were crowned champions at the first Major ever played indoors, with Kuwait proving to be an outstanding host after previously staging a P1 tournament in 2024 and the FIP World Cup Pairs last season.
The Golden Boys Extend Their Reign
With Ale Galán-Fede Chingotto’s withdrawal announced just before the start of the main draw due to an injury to the Alien, Tapia-Coello knew that winning the title would mathematically secure the No. 1 spot. And, as so often, they seized their opportunity when it mattered.
The Golden Boys produced another dominant performance, just as they had throughout the rest of the tournament, to defeat an Arce-Tello team who had no answer to their opponents’ relentless level. Tapia worked his magic while Coello was ruthless at the net, sealing a swift 6-1, 6-1 victory in just 56 minutes.
They lifted their 13th title of 2026 and their third Major of the season after their victories in Rome and Paris. They also extended their winning streak to 23 consecutive matches, claiming their fifth title in a row and finishing the season as world No. 1s in the FIP Ranking for a fourth consecutive year. They will also have three more opportunities — Dubai P1, Mexico Major and Finals — to equal or surpass their record of 14 titles in a year.
“It is the fourth season in which Agus and I have achieved the goal we set ourselves at the beginning of every year since we started playing together. It is thanks to everyone around us and our team, but above all to Agus. This year was difficult; people thought it might be the last year we stayed at the top because Ale and Chingo had pulled away. But we have shown that we have a very strong mentality. I’m very happy", Coello said after the match.
“I’m feeling so many emotions today. I’m very happy, I’m in the team I want to be in and I couldn’t ask for anything more. I’m grateful to Arturo; he has taught me so many things: how to be a good teammate, how to be a good person on and off the court… Whatever I say about him won’t do him justice. He’s a ten out of ten as a teammate and as a person", said Tapia.
The defeat should not overshadow Tello-Arce’s outstanding tournament. Thanks to their runner-up finish, they add 1,200 points to their FIP Race tally and put themselves in an excellent position to secure their qualification for the Finals over the Tour’s next two events.
Triay-Brea Protect Their Crown
The rankings also prevailed in the women’s final. Triay-Brea faced the difficult task of overcoming the most in-form team on Tour, Sánchez-Ustero, who had reached five consecutive finals and won three of their last four tournaments. A defeat would have left them in a vulnerable position during the final stretch of the season, but they produced their best level to come from behind in a difficult battle and once again showed that they tend to rise to the occasion when it matters most.
After dropping the opening set 6-3, the team coached by Seba Nerone responded immediately with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 double set that stunned Sánchez-Ustero. Both teams had come through semi-final battles lasting more than three and a half hours, but it was ultimately Triay-Brea’s level that prevailed in a match lasting one hour and 57 minutes.
Thanks to this hugely important victory, the world No. 1s have opened up a significant gap over Sánchez-Ustero in the FIP Race. More specifically, they have extended their lead to 2,780 points, with 4,500 still up for grabs across the final three events of the year, putting them in a very strong position to finish at the top for a second consecutive season.
The victory also sees Triay become the most successful player in padel history in terms of titles, with 59 to her name, breaking the three-way tie that had existed with Sánchez and Alejandra Salazar, who remain on 58.
“This victory shows the heart of this team. We are going to fight until the very end and give everything we have. We believed from the very beginning today despite making a poor start. Congratulations to Gemma and to our entire team, from the bottom of my heart", said Brea.
“These points are hugely important for us during this final stretch of the season. I’d like to thank the tournament organisers and the Rafa Nadal Academy for everything. This is one of the best tournaments on the calendar", said Triay.
Following this historic Kuwait Major, the Tour will now take a one-week break for the FIP World Cup in Qatar before returning to action from 8 to 15 November with the Dubai P1.
Shortly afterwards, the final Major of the season will take place in Acapulco from 23 to 29 November, while the Barcelona Finals will bring the season to a close, featuring the top 16 players in the FIP Race at the Palau Sant Jordi from 10 to 13 December.
