The leading four men’s pairs made commanding starts at the Andalucía Málaga Premier Padel P1 on Wednesday, while Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga produced the result of the day by eliminating eighth seeds Alejandra Salazar and Aranza Osoro in their debut as a pair.

The third day of main-draw action completed the women’s opening round and the men’s second round, leaving both draws ready for a packed round-of-16 programme on Thursday at the Martín Carpena.

Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto delivered the fastest victory of the day. The second seeds needed just 57 minutes to defeat Denis Perino and Facundo Domínguez 6-0, 6-3, conceding only three games in an emphatic opening performance.

Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia were almost as clinical. The top seeds overcame David Gala and Enzo Jensen 6-3, 6-2 in 63 minutes, taking control after a competitive start and accelerating towards victory in the second set.

Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger also advanced without dropping a set, although Daniel Santigosa and Marc Sintes kept the third seeds under pressure before eventually falling 6-3, 6-4. Fourth seeds Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas completed a perfect day for the men’s leading four pairs with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over qualifiers José Solano and Ramiro Pereyra.

Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno looked equally comfortable on their Málaga debut. The sixth seeds defeated wild cards Coquito Zamora and Pablo Sánchez 6-2, 6-2 in just over an hour.

Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi continued their progress by beating Lucho Capra and Luis Hernández 6-4, 6-3, while Toliuto Aguirre and Álex Arroyo secured their last-16 place with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Pablo García and Pablo Lijó.

In the women’s draw, Caldera and Goenaga claimed the standout victory. The Spanish pair held firm throughout to defeat Salazar and Osoro 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 38 minutes, becoming the only unseeded team to knock out a women’s seed on Wednesday.

Fresh from winning their first title together in Bordeaux, fifth seeds Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen maintained their momentum with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lucía Sainz and Sofía Saiz. Marta Ortega and Martina Calvo, seeded sixth, recorded the same scoreline against Jana Montes and Marta Barrera.

Nuria Rodríguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo were pushed to three sets by Araceli Martínez and Laura Luján. After losing the second set, Rodríguez and Dal Pozzo responded emphatically and raced through the decider to prevail 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Lorena Rufo and Victoria Iglesias also progressed after defeating Lucía Martínez and Águeda Pérez 6-3, 6-3.

Thursday’s round of 16 will begin at 10am, with Coello-Tapia facing Aguirre-Arroyo, Galán-Chingotto taking on Tello-Arce and Stupaczuk-Yanguas meeting Garrido-Bergamini. In the women’s draw, top seeds Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea will make their Málaga debut against Rufo-Iglesias as the battle for the quarter-finals begins.
