The world’s best padel is back as Premier Padel made its tour debut in Germany this Monday, with the first matches of the Round of 32 at the CUPRA Germany Premier Padel P2. While Germany has previously hosted international tournaments from the CUPRA FIP Tour and the FIP Promises, this is the first time the country welcomes the official world-leading professional padel circuit. The Germany P2 marks a historic milestone for the sport in the country, which—according to FIP data—currently has over 400,000 amateur players, more than 800 courts, and 3,750 federative licenses.
The modern and cosmopolitan city of Düsseldorf serves as host for the Germany P2 2025, played at the cozy CASTELLO Düsseldorf arena. The first day already showcased some of the sport’s biggest stars, including Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto (#2), Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto (#4), Martín Di Nenno and Leo Augsburger (#5), and Juan Tello and Pablo Cardona (#9).
These four men’s pairs were the highlights of the opening Round of 32, all starting strongly. ‘Chingalán’ defeated lucky losers ‘Pincho’ Fernández and Pablo García 6-1, 6-3. Yanguas-Nieto overcame Sager-Fernández Lancha 6-2, 7-6(5), Di Nenno-Augsburger beat Sánchez-Gil 6-3, 7-5, and Tello-Cardona won against Cepero-Torre 6-3, 6-4.
Also advancing to the Round of 16 were Portuguese stars Nuno and Miguel Deus, who dominated Guillem Figuerola and Germany’s No. 1, Agustín Reca — born in Madrid, holding German nationality, and son of legendary player and current coach Gaby Reca — with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. On the other hand, Tolito Aguirre and Álex Chozas fell in their third consecutive tournament opening match, this time to David Gala and Lucas Campagnolo (6-3, 7-6(1)).
In the women’s draw, French Alix Collombon and Spanish Araceli Martínez left no chance for Germany’s Victoria Kurz and Hungary’s Dora Andrejszki, the first Hungarian representative in Premier Padel history, winning 6-2, 6-1. A much tighter match saw Carmen Goenaga and Bea Caldera (#10) overcome Bidahorria-Arruabarrena, saving several set points in the second set to secure their place in the Round of 16 (6-4, 7-5).
The two biggest surprises came via comebacks. Noa Canovas and Maria Eulalia Rodríguez turned the match around to beat Castelló-Rufo in over 2 hours and 45 minutes (3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2). Similarly, young players Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio defeated veterans Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, ensuring their spots in the Round of 16, which begins Wednesday with the top 8 women’s pairs entering the fray.
Before that, the second day of the Round of 32 will take place this Tuesday from 10:00 local time, featuring 14 matches across both draws. The day will include the grand debut of the world’s best players Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, as well as the No. 3 seeds, Juan Lebrón and Franco Stupaczuk.
