Ruiz and Garcia will now face Juanlu Esbri and Sanyo Gutierrez, who defeated lucky losers Flavio Abbate and Alvaro Montiel 6-1 6-4.

The bottom half also features Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, who overcame Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini 6-3 7-5 to set up a meeting with No. 10 seeds Juan Tello and Maxi Arce, winners over Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo 6-4 6-3.

At the top of the draw, world No. 1s Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia survived a tough test against Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi, recovering from a set down to win 5-7 6-4 6-2 and book a quarter-final against José Jimenez and Alex Arroyo. The remaining last-eight clash will see Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger, who defeated Jofre and Bautista 7-6 6-3, take on Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal after their 4-6 6-2 6-4 comeback victory over Tolito Aguirre and Gonzalo Alfonso Garcia.

BARRERA-MONTES REACH THE QUARTERS TOO

Marta Barrera and Jana Montes are the only unseeded pair in the women's quarter-finals after defeating Lorena Rufo and Victoria Iglesias 6-4 6-2. Next up are Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo, who marked their debut as a partnership with a 6-1 7-5 win over Julieta Bidahorria and Marta Caparros.

Sofia Araujo and Marta Ortega also needed three sets to overcome Giorgia Marchetti and Lara Arruabarrena 6-2 6-7 6-1 and will face Ale Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro. The other two quarter-finals feature the tournament's top seeds: Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay against Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen, and Bea Gonzalez and Paula Josemaria against Marina Guinart and Ale Alonso.
