The majestic Movistar Arena in the Spanish capital brought to a close an unforgettable week, crowning Bea González–Claudia Fernández (#3) and Leo Augsburger–Martín Di Nenno (#7) as champions of the fourth edition of the Comunidad de Madrid Premier Padel P1.

Bea and Claudia did not enter as the main favorites — not because of their head-to-head record (which stood at 4-2 in favor of the Spaniards), but because Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea were in peak form, arriving in Madrid as the brand-new World No. 1s.

Even less so were Augsburger and Di Nenno considered favorites. After taking out “Chingalán” (#2) in the quarterfinals and Stupa–Lebrón (#3) in the semis, they pulled off the ultimate upset by toppling the World No. 1 pair, Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia. In only their second tournament together, the Argentinians not only captured their first title as a team but also became the first pair in the history of the circuit to defeat the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 pairs in the same event. It was Augsburger’s first Premier Padel championship, and Di Nenno’s fourth—his first since the Finland P2 in August 2024.

They did it in a men’s final that was a true spectacle. Augsburger’s fearless shot-making and Di Nenno’s consistency went up against Coello and Tapia’s dominance. The No. 1s took a tight first set 6-4, but the Argentinians refused to flinch, responding with a stunning display to claim the second set 6-3 and force a decider.

With the Movistar Arena on edge, and Augsburger — the final’s MVP — igniting the Madrid crowd, the score reached 4-4. Then came the shocker: a crucial break for 5-4, followed by an apotheotic finish, sealed with three trademark smashes for the 6-4 victory that sent the venue into raptures (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).

In the post-match press conference, Augsburger said: “I knew my first championship would come, but maybe not in such a complete and special way. This gives me so much motivation to keep working with this incredible person by my side,” referring to Di Nenno, who added: “I’m very, very happy and grateful to Leo and the whole team for giving me the confidence and solidity to get here after an irregular year.”

The women’s final was also a treat for the spectators. Bea and Claudia claimed their third title of the season and seem to have the upper hand against Gemma and Delfi, with a 5-2 head-to-head lead in their favor. A tight clash was expected, and it lived up to the script, despite what the set scores suggested. Delfi and Gemma took the first 6-3, making good on their lone break point (while Bea and Claudia missed three chances), but the Spaniards roared back in the second, converting all three break points they earned for a resounding 6-1.

The deciding set was razor-close and looked destined for a tiebreak, until two unforced errors from the No. 1s gave Bea and Claudia the decisive break for 5-4. They held serve to seal their third trophy of the year (3-6, 6-1, 6-4). Individually, it marked Bea’s tenth Premier Padel title and Claudia’s ninth. The MVP of the final, Claudia, said she was “very happy to win at home,” and praised both her partner and coach Gaby Reca for helping them come through “a match where we grew stronger as it went on.” Bea, meanwhile, admitted she was glad to “get the thorn out of my side by winning again in Madrid,” after having to withdraw from last year’s final.
