The ueno bank Asunción Premier Padel P2 completed its opening chapter on Wednesday with the full Round of 32 played across both men’s and women’s draws at the Parque Olímpico. A long day of action at the ueno COP Arena and surrounding courts delivered tight battles, statement wins, and the first clear picture of the contenders moving into the last 16.

The day began with one of the most dramatic matches of the tournament so far. Aranzazu Osoro and Victoria Iglesias pushed hard, but fell to Nuria Rodríguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo in a three-set battle (6-1, 6-7, 6-4) that stretched over two and a half hours. It was a test of endurance that set the tone early on.

Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga followed with a composed performance, edging past Jessica Castelló and Lorena Rufo 7-5, 7-5. Elsewhere, Virginia Riera and Teresa Navarro delivered a solid win, dispatching Laia Rodríguez and Marta Borrero 6-4, 6-4, while Marina Lobo and Lara Arruabarrena, coming through qualifying, continued their run with a confident straight-sets victory.

There were also strong statements from Lucía Martínez and Agueda Pérez, as well as from Marta Talaván and Sofía Saiz, both pairs advancing without dropping a set and showing early signs of form heading into the next round.

In the men’s draw, several matches swung on fine details. Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini, seeded eighth, were pushed to three sets by Barahona and Alfonso but found a way through (5-7, 6-4, 6-2), raising their level as the match progressed.

One of the standout comebacks came from Víctor Ruiz and Carlos Gutiérrez, who, despite taking the second set, were ultimately edged out by Quiles and Mouriño in three sets. The pair continue to impress, backing up his run through qualifying with a statement win on centre court.

Alex Chozas and Tino Libaak’s section also delivered drama, overturning a first-set deficit to defeat Leal and Torre in a tight three-set encounter, underlining the unpredictable nature of the draw.

Pablo Lijó and Pablo García were among the most dominant performers of the day, cruising past Abud and Lamperti in straight sets, while Campagnolo and Bautista mirrored that authority with a convincing win over Valdés and Núñez.

Meanwhile, Diestro and Sánchez Blasco produced one of the most efficient performances of the round, needing less than an hour to close out their match and book their place in the last 16.

The Paraguayan presence was strongly felt throughout the day, with local players receiving significant support from the stands at the ueno COP Arena. Martín Abud and Facundo Dehnike both showed moments of high-quality padel and competitive spirit, matching their opponents in phases of their matches.

However, despite their efforts and the backing of the home crowd, neither pairing was able to progress into the Round of 16. Their performances nonetheless reflected the growing level of the sport locally and added to the atmosphere of the event.

With the first round now complete, the tournament moves into a new dimension. The arrival of the top eight women’s pairs and top four men’s pairs will raise the level further, bringing fresh storylines and immediate high-stakes matchups. After two days of intense competition, the ueno bank Asunción Premier Padel P2 is now fully underway, with the fight for the title in Paraguay entering its decisive stages.
