The Oysho Valladolid Premier Padel P2 reached its semi-final stage after a quarter-final day marked by home emotion, a major men’s upset and another standout performance from Giulia Dal Pozzo and Nuria Rodriguez.
The Italian-Spanish pair continued their remarkable run after their breakthrough in Rome, beating Ale Salazar and Ale Alonso 6-1 6-1 in just over an hour. After also defeating Claudia Fernandez and Sofia Araujo in the previous round, Dal Pozzo and Rodriguez are once again into the last four, where they will face Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez, 6-4 6-4 winners over Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen.
The other women’s semi-final will open Saturday’s play at 9:00 CEST, with Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay facing Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero. The No. 1 seeds came from behind to beat Martina Fassio and Raquel Eugenio 3-6 6-3 6-2, while Sanchez and Ustero defeated Marina Guinart and Veronica Virseda 7-6 6-1.
In the men’s draw, Arturo Coello delighted his home crowd alongside Agustin Tapia, beating Jairo Bautista and Iñigo Jofre 6-1 6-4. The world No. 1 pair will now meet Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger, who advanced after the withdrawal of Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo due to Campagnolo’s injury.
The surprise of the day came from Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal, who eliminated Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas 7-6 6-4 to return to the Valladolid semi-finals for a second straight year. They will face Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, who closed the day with a 6-1 6-4 win over Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno.
With Coello chasing victory at home and Dal Pozzo and Rodriguez extending their dream run, Saturday promises a high-voltage semi-final day in the Plaza Mayor.
