There were no major surprises on the Round of 16 day at the CUPRA Germany Premier Padel P2, with the four men’s and women’s top seeds all making winning debuts at the tournament.

The standout story was Claudia Jensen’s ability to adapt, having reached the quarter-finals alongside Claudia Escacena last week before reaching the same stage this time with Noa Cánovas. Meanwhile, young Maxi Sánchez Blasco will contest his first quarter-finals on the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour alongside Sanyo Gutiérrez, with whom he has reunited three months after they parted ways.

Jensen, A Master of Adaptation

The Argentine continues getting wins on the European swing while her regular partner, Tamara Icardo, continues her recovery from the injury that ruled her out of the Paris Major and Rotterdam P2. Last week, Jensen produced a high-level performance alongside Escacena, while this time she is competing with Noa Cánovas as the tournament’s No. 8 seeds.

Jensen and Cánovas faced the always-tough Patty Llaguno - Carolina Orsi (#11), Roland Garros quarter-finalists, but came through the test with a 7-6, 6-1 victory to secure their place in the next round, where they will face the world No. 1s, Gemma Triay - Delfi Brea. Jensen will look to defeat the FIP Ranking leaders once again after doing so in the Bordeaux P2 final in July alongside Icardo (3-6, 6-1, 6-1).

Meanwhile, Cánovas will look to extend her stay in Düsseldorf, and at the next tournament she will team up with Bea Caldera, who will receive an individual Lucky Loser spot to play alongside her following Carmen Goenaga’s injury. From the Kuwait Major onwards, Cánovas will embark on a new project with Marina Lobo.

A Reunion That Works

The run of Álvaro Montiel - Daniel Santigosa, who reached the Round of 16 just hours after being eliminated in qualifying and making the most of a second chance through the Lucky Loser draw by defeating Jairo Bautista - Lucas Bergamini (#10), came to an end at the hands of Sánchez - Gutiérrez (#17).

The Argentine team separated ways at the Pretoria P1 a few months ago after spending much of the season together, but decided to reunite for the Germany P2. The move has already paid off, as they have secured a place in the quarter-finals. It will be the first time Sánchez reaches this stage on Tour in 2026, while Gutiérrez already has three quarter-finals to his name this season, having reached the last eight in Cancún and Pretoria.

On Friday, they will face Chingalán, whom Gutiérrez defeated against all odds in Mexico earlier this season, although he was partnered by Gonza Alfonso on that occasion.

Leburger, Chingalán and Sánchez - Ustero Survive Tough Tests

On the day the top men’s and women’s teams made their tournament debuts, these three were forced to dig deep and settle their respective matches in the third set.

Lebrón - Augsburger (#3) came through a difficult test against Juanlu Esbrí - Íñigo Jofre (#13), the Madrid P1 semi-finalists who produced an inspired performance. They stunned their opponents by taking the opening set 6-3 and then broke early in the second, but with the score at 1-2, Lebrón led Augsburger back into the match, providing outstanding emotional leadership as they completed the comeback with back-to-back 6-3 sets.

Chingalán found themselves in a very similar situation after being caught off guard by the newly formed team of Javi Garrido - Juani De Pascual (#16). They narrowly dropped the opening set 6-4, responded strong in the second (6-1), and a break at 5-5 in the third set proved decisive as they closed out a 7-5 victory. They therefore maintain their unbeaten record in the opening rounds of Premier Padel tournaments since joining forces, having never lost before the quarter-finals.

Finally, Ari Sánchez - Andrea Ustero (#3), Paris Major and Rotterdam P2 winners, had to fight back against Jimena Velasco - Raquel Eugenio (#12), who made the stronger start and took the opening set 6-4. Gradually, the Spanish team found their rhythm and rediscovered the level that has carried them to two consecutive titles, turning the match around with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
