The action continues on the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour. Just hours after Martina Calvo - Claudia Fernández and Arturo Coello - Agustín Tapia were crowned champions at the Germany P2, the men’s main draw at the Oysho Milano P1 got underway on Monday, with 16 first-round matches taking place at the Allianz Cloud.
The iconic Lombardy venue is hosting the Tour for the fifth consecutive year, with the Milano P1 marking the final stop on a three-week European swing that has taken the world’s best players to Rotterdam and Düsseldorf over the past fortnight.
A fixture on the Premier Padel calendar since the Tour’s inaugural season in 2022, the Italian tournament offers 1,000 FIP ranking points to each of its winners. Three-time champion Alejandro Galán and his partner Fede Chingotto return to defend the men’s title, while Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría, who have since gone their separate ways, will be looking to retain the women’s crown with their respective partners.
The Deus Brothers Win the Battle of the Day
The longest and most fiercely contested match of the day lasted two hours and 31 minutes, with Portuguese brothers Miguel Deus and Nuno Deus coming out on top. The match went all the way to a deciding set, with the Deus defeating Javier Martínez - Luis Hernández (#25) by 7-6, 3-6, 6-4.
The victory will give them a major confidence boost as they continue to rediscover their best form together after Miguel suffered a pre-season injury that ruled him out of the first nine tournaments of 2026, while Nuno switched partners in a bid to defend as many ranking points as possible.
“Let’s go! A lot of fighting, a lot of patience and good padel in the first round of the Milano P1. Great start, team!” Miguel wrote on social media after the victory, which sends them through to the Round of 32, where they will face Chingalán.
STILL NOT TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
As many as three teams who will part ways after the Milano P1 won their opening matches, extending their farewells at least another day before embarking on new sporting projects.
Tolito Aguirre - Pablo García (#18) picked up another Premier Padel win after losing in the opening round at three of their last four tournaments. They defeated qualifying team Marcos González - Jaume Romera in straight sets after a strong effort from the newcomers. Aguirre, who is currently playing on the backhand side, will switch to the drive alongside Pablo Lijó from the Kuwait Major onwards, while García will start a new partnership with Alonso Rodríguez.
José Diestro - Marc Sintes (#24) beat Guillermo Collado - Enrique Goenaga (#23) in just one hour and three minutes (6-4, 6-3). They will now look to reach the Round of 16 for the third consecutive tournament before teaming up with new partners. Sintes will join forces with Juan Zamora, while Diestro will partner Andrés Fernández Lancha.
The latter and Álvaro Cepero also began their Milano campaign with a win, defeating Mario Ortega - Adam Axelsson, who had come through qualifying. The match went down to a deciding-set tie-break, with Lancha and Cepero completing a comeback to win (5-7, 6-3, 7-6). As a reward, they will face sixth seeds Javi Leal - Fran Guerrero on Wednesday. In the coming weeks, Lancha will team up with Diestro, while Cepero will join forces with Antonio Fernández.
González Returns with a Win
Another talking point from the opening day was Paraguayan Mariano González’s victory alongside Spanish partner Curro Cabeza, the No. 27 seeds. They defeated Gonzalo Rubio - Álvaro Meléndez (#33) in the final match of the day by 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and three minutes. It was a special win for González, who returned to action after missing the last two tournaments due to a physical issue.
The youngest team in the draw, with a combined age of just 36, already know what it takes to reach the quarter-finals on Premier Padel, having done so at this year’s London P1. They now face a tough Round of 32 clash against Álex Arroyo - José Jiménez (#14).
Italy’s Top Three Women Make Their Debuts after men's heartbreak
The men’s opening round was also marked by several unsuccessful debuts for Italian players Álvaro Montiel, Denis Perino, Facundo Dominguez, Aris Patiniotis, Simone Iacovino, Giulio Graziotti and Marco Cassetta.
Cassetta, however, enjoyed plenty of support in the stands from Inter Milan midfielder Nicolò Barella, who enjoyed the tournament before facing Club Brugge in the Champions League at San Siro.
On Wednesday, Italy’s three highest-ranked women in the FIP Ranking will make their debuts in the opening round of the women’s draw, which will feature an Italian clash. Giulia Dal Pozzo (#26), the first Italian player to reach a Major semi-final on the Tour, and her teammate Nuria Rodríguez will face Giorgia Marchetti (#52) who has received a Wild Card alongside Lara Arruabarrena.
Meanwhile, Carolina Orsi (#31) will compete with Patty Llaguno against Sofia Saiz - Marta Talaván, who are teaming up again several months after parting ways.
Marina Guinart - Alejandra Alonso (#7) will also begin their campaign in the women’s draw, as will Alejandra Salazar, who will play alongside Aranza Osoro in what will be her final tournament as a professional player on Italian soil.
Meanwhile, teams such as Paquito Navarro - Martín Di Nenno (#5), Leal - Guerrero (#6) and Momo González - Lucas Campagnolo (#7) will make their debuts in the men’s draw, as will an improvised team in Pablo Lijó - Mike Yanguas, who have joined forces temporarily following Coki Nieto’s withdrawal due to an injury.
