The CIB NEWGIZA Premier Padel P2 2026 is edging towards its conclusion after a quarter-final day that had everything: from outstanding performances to highly tight encounters, with new pairings reaching the semi-finals, and even a qualifying duo, Enzo Jensen and Luis Hernández, coming agonisingly close to a remarkable feat. They were, with the permission of Jose Jiménez and Javi García – also eliminated today – the standout surprise pair of the tournament.
‘EL GATO’ AND ALONSO AIM TO END THEIR PROJECT ON A HIGH
In their final tournament together, Juan Tello and Edu Alonso (#8) will contest their first semi-final. They booked their place after walking a tightrope against qualifiers Enzo Jensen and Luis Hernández, who came very close to pulling off an upset. But ‘El Gato’ and the Valencian player held their nerve in the third set and stepped up in the crucial points to take the victory (6-4, 2-6, 6-4).
Tello and Alonso are dreaming big, but first they will face Franco Stupaczuk, the only player with two titles in Egypt (2022 and 2024), and his partner Mike Yanguas, who lifted the title alongside ‘Stupa’ two seasons ago. The #2 seeds recovered from a difficult start against Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini (#7), who were more aggressive in the opening set, and went on to win a match that had no shortage of spice (3-6, 6-3, 6-1).
On the other side of the draw, the #1 seeds and defending champions Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto will fight for a place in the final against the #5 pair Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto. The Navarrese and the Madrid-born player overcame Paquito Navarro and Fran Guerrero (#4) in a physically and mentally demanding match, where patience and resilience were key factors (6-4, 7-5). Meanwhile, ‘Chingalán’ are chasing their fourth final in five tournaments at the start of this season.
MARTA AND MARTINA DREAM OF THEIR FIRST FINAL
It is the second semi-final of the season for Marta Ortega and Martina Calvo (#6), who are dreaming of reaching their first final together on the Premier Padel Tour. ‘La Doctora’ and the young Navarrese talent produced a very high-level performance in what was the closest match of the day (6-0, 4-6, 6-2 vs Araújo-Fernández), and will now face the world number ones. Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, who have reached every final so far this year, with two titles from four tournaments, barely gave Guinart-Virseda any chances today (6-0, 6-2).
On the other side of the draw, Bea González and Paula Josemaría (#2), and Ariana Sánchez and Andrea Ustero (#3) continue their path. Paula and Ari, reigning champions in NEWGIZA when they were still playing together (1 November 2025), will meet for the third time in five tournaments. The head-to-head is level at one win each: Sánchez and Ustero took the first encounter in the Gijón P2 semi-finals, while González-Josemaría recently gained revenge in Miami, where they lifted their first title of the season.
In Egypt, both pairs have been improving match by match: while yesterday Paula and Bea had to dig deep to eliminate Osoro-Iglesias, today they swept aside Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga (6-0, 6-1). The Catalan pair, meanwhile, have not dropped a single set at NEWGIZA, although today Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen pushed them to the limit in the second set after being heavily outplayed in the first (6-1, 7-6(6)).
DOUBLE SEMI-FINAL SESSION
The semi-final day at the CIB NEWGIZA P2 will feature two sessions. Tomorrow’s morning session will start at 09:30 local time and will include the two women’s semi-finals, one after the other on Centre Court. The men’s semi-finals, meanwhile, will be played in the afternoon and evening, with the first one starting at 17:00 local time.
