Rome is buzzing with excitement as the quarterfinals of the 2025 Italy Major Premier Padel take shape, with play set to begin this Friday at 09:00 local time. The top six men’s pairs and the leading three women’s duos will battle it out for a coveted spot in the semifinals. Among the surprise contenders are Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero (#13), who stunned the #7 seeds Tello-Di Nenno, along with ‘Las Martas’ - the breakout duo of the tournament - and Victoria Iglesias and Marina Guinart, who once again lived up to their reputation as 'giant killers'.
Iglesias and Guinart (#11), who have been delivering strong performances throughout the season, eliminated the #4 seeds Araújo and Ustero (7-6, 4-6, 6-1). The Spanish duo celebrated euphorically on court, knowing they have a golden chance to reach the semifinals. Their next opponents, Marta Barrera and Marta Caparrós, put in a dominant display against the #6 seeds, Salazar and Virseda, and will be playing their first quarterfinals as a team. They've fully earned the right to dream of a semifinal berth - especially on a stage as iconic as the Foro Italico.
The top three pairs in the women’s draw booked their quarterfinal spots with ease. Defending champions Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría cruised through their openers with a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 win over Osoro-Calvo. Even more decisive was the performance of the #2 seeds, Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, who sealed a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win in just 46 minutes against Riera-Eugenio. Bea González and Claudia Fernández (#3) were just as ruthless, securing their quarterfinal spot in exactly one hour with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Marrero and Martínez.
The rest of the draw is completed by the rising #5 pair, Marta Ortega and Alejandra Alonso (6-3, 6-4 vs Collombon-Martínez), the young duo of Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga (7-6, 6-3 vs Sainz-Llaguno), and the #8 seeds, Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen (6-4, 6-3 vs Talavan-Sharifova).
In the men’s draw, third seeds Juan Lebrón and Franco Stupaczuk were made to work for their spot in the last eight, overcoming Javier García and Javier Barahona in a tight three-set battle (6-3, 4-6, 6-3). Their next opponents will be Momo González and Jon Sanz (#5), who delivered a solid performance to defeat Maxi Sánchez and Álex Ruiz 6-4, 6-4. Friday’s encounter will be a rematch of their recent clash in Buenos Aires, where González and Sanz claimed a memorable victory.
Paquito Navarro and Lucas Bergamini (#6) also advanced after navigating a rollercoaster match against Edu Alonso and Jairo Bautista. The Spanish-Brazilian pair took the opening set in a close tiebreak, dropped the second, but recovered convincingly in the third to close out a 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-1 win. They now face top seeds Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, who produced a composed display to defeat Juanlu Esbrí and José Diestro 6-3, 6-2 - an emphatic response to their earlier loss to the same duo in Asunción. Friday’s meeting between Coello-Tapia and Navarro-Bergamini will be a rematch of the Buenos Aires P1 final played just two weeks ago, now taking place at the quarter-final stage in Rome.
Elsewhere, defending champions Federico Chingotto and Alejandro Galán (#2) continued their impressive momentum in Rome, advancing once again without spending more than an hour on court. They will be joined in the quarter-finals by Íñigo Jofre and Álex Arroyo, who brought an end to the surprise run of Nachi Sager and Lucas Campagnolo. Adding to the day’s upsets, Javier Leal and Fran Guerrero delivered a standout performance to eliminate Juan Tello and Martín Di Nenno (#7). Their next challenge will be against Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto (#4), who now stand between them and a place in the semi-finals.
