The Campo Centrale at Rome's iconic Foro Italico witnessed a match on Saturday that will forever be remembered in Premier Padel history. Ariana Sanchez and Andrea Ustero defeated Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez 5-7 7-6(8) 7-6(6) after an astonishing four hours and 12 minutes, the longest match ever played on the Premier Padel tour.
The No. 3 seeds produced a monumental performance to stop a pair that had won five consecutive titles and arrived in Rome on a 22-match winning streak. Josemaria and Gonzalez held four match points — two at 6-5 in the second set, one at 8-7 in the second-set tie-break and another at 6-5 in the deciding tie-break — but Sanchez and Ustero survived every challenge to complete an unforgettable comeback.
The match surpassed the previous Premier Padel duration record, set at exactly four hours during the Milano P1 in 2024, and sends Sanchez and Ustero into their first final since the Gijon P2. Since then, it had always been either Josemaria-Gonzalez or Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea contesting the biggest titles. On Sunday, Sanchez and Ustero will play their third final of the season.
DELFI AND GEMMA CHASING A THIRD TITLE OF 2026
Awaiting them will be world No. 1s Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea. The defending Rome champions ended the dream run of Giulia Dal Pozzo and Nuria Rodriguez with a 6-3 6-3 victory. Dal Pozzo, the first Italian player ever to reach a Major semifinal, capped a remarkable week in front of her home crowd.
Triay and Brea advance to their ninth final of the season, having reached every title match played in 2026 so far. However, the world No. 1 pair are still searching for a trophy that has eluded them since the Cancun P2 in March.
MEN'S SUPERCLASICO TO DECIDE THE FIRST MAJOR OF THE YEAR
The men's final will once again feature one of the defining rivalries of the Premier Padel era: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia against Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto. World No. 1s versus world No. 2s. Another chapter in a rivalry that continues to shape the sport's biggest stages.
Galan and Chingotto were the first team to secure their place in the final, defeating Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger 7-6(5) 6-3. As they have done so often this season, the No. 2 seeds relied on their composure and competitive edge to come through the key moments of a tightly contested match.
Later in the day, Coello and Tapia needed less than an hour to defeat Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo 6-1 6-4. The world No. 1s delivered one of their most convincing performances of the week to book another Major final.
On Sunday, the Foro Italico will crown the champions of the first Major of the 2026 season. First comes the women's final between Triay-Brea and Sanchez-Ustero, followed by another edition of the Superclasico between Coello-Tapia and Galan-Chingotto.
