The Oysho Valladolid Premier Padel P2 reached the quarter-finals after a Round of 16 marked by fast conditions, local emotion and two major upsets in the women’s draw. The Plaza Mayor once again produced the kind of padel that defines Valladolid: quick rallies, attacking play and little margin for error. The men’s favourites largely survived the test, while the women’s draw was shaken by the eliminations of two seeded pairs.

The biggest roar of the day came for Arturo Coello. Playing in his home city, the world number one delivered alongside Agustín Tapia, beating Álex Chozas and Tino Libaak 6-2 6-3 in just 58 minutes. Coello and Tapia will now face Jairo Bautista and Íñigo Jofre, who continued their strong week with a 7-5 7-6 win over Pablo García and Pablo Lijó.

Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas had a more difficult route into the last eight. The fourth seeds dropped the opening set against Xisco Gil and Manu Castaño before recovering to win 3-6 6-3 6-3. Their quarter-final opponents will be Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero, who swept past Alonso Rodríguez and Juani De Pascual 6-1 6-1.

Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger also moved through, edging Pol Hernández and Guille Collado 7-6 7-5. They will meet Momo González and Lucas Campagnolo, who defeated Álex Ruiz and Juanlu Esbrí 7-6 6-0. Alejandro Galán and Fede Chingotto completed the men’s quarter-final line-up with a 6-3 6-3 win over Luis Hernández and Valladolid player Javi Martínez, setting up a standout clash with Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno, who beat Rodrigo Coello and Adem Axelsson 7-5 7-6.

In the women’s draw, Nuria Rodríguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo produced the result of the round by defeating Claudia Fernández and Sofía Araújo for the second time this season. After their breakthrough win over the same pair at the Italy Major in Rome, they came from behind once again to beat the fourth seeds 4-6 7-6(5) 6-4 in two and a half hours. They will now face Alejandra Salazar and local favourite Alejandra Alonso, who defeated Marta Caparrós and Julieta Bidahorria 6-4 6-4.

There was another upset as Martina Fassio and Raquel Eugenio knocked out sixth seeds Marta Ortega and Martina Calvo 7-6(4) 7-5, reaching their first Premier Padel quarter-final of the season. Their reward is a meeting with world number ones Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, who overcame Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga 7-5 6-0.

Paula Josemaría and Bea González advanced with a 6-3 6-3 win over Victoria Iglesias and Aranza Osoro, while Valencia champions Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero beat Lorena Rufo and Jessica Castelló 6-2 6-2. Josemaría and González will face Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen, while Sánchez and Ustero meet Marina Guinart and Vero Virseda.

With the quarter-finals set, Valladolid enters its decisive stretch with Coello carrying the home hopes, the men’s favourites still alive and a women’s draw that has already delivered its first major shake-up.
